The firm was established under the name of Che Mokhtar & Co in August 1985, as a bumiputra legal firm founded by Datuk Che Mokhtar bin Che Ali. Mr. Ling Thik Ping joined the firm in 1987 and became a partner in 1992.

Through continued commitment and endeavour for excellence, the firm has matured into a recognizable and respectable body of practitioners, whose relentless support from loyal clients contributed much to the growth of the firm over the years.

On the 1st of November, 2002, Che Mokhtar & Co changed its name to Che Mokhtar & Ling.
